The Existence of Kigezi Community School, My Life!
Kigezi Community School transformed and shaped me to be what I am today. I was born in a humble background where I had no hope of attaining an education as it was difficult for my parents to raise school fees. My father would always tell us before divorcing my mother that the planned kids are the ones who join secondary Schools, so there was no hope at all. After the coming of Kigezi Community School, my grandmother brought me to Kigezi Orphans Home CBO. I had a lot of fear as I thought it was for the rich people since there were services I used to hear in schools for rich parents because at Kigezi Community School we would take porridge at break time which was unusual to me.
After some time, we started having lunch at school. This made my school life happier as there was no more staying hungry. The school helped me with school fees problems which enabled the accomplishment of primary level. After primary seven (P.7), I thought I would go for marriage as my dad would tell us before divorcing my mother, that we are not planned kids to join secondary schools. Kigezi Community School supported me by paying school fees fully and took me to Christ The King Town View SS Rutooma.
It was a bit challenging for me as everything was new. My first surprise was travelling in a car to and from school which I thought was for the rich only. School fees were always paid in time and I cannot remember any single day being chased from school. I had a lot of self-rejection as I would see other students as far better than me when it came to school life. During the holidays, the Kigezi project went ahead to organize special days when we would meet together and share our experiences at school. They would guide and counsel us respectively. Through the counseling and sharing sessions, I developed self-confidence and realized a lot of value within me. When I went back to school, I contested to be the liturgy prefect and won. I went ahead to contest for being the school head girl which I won also.
Every time I felt proud of Kigezi as I could not imagine being called the Headgirl. Kigezi went ahead to prepare for all pupils, students, and guardians Christmas party every December which was surprising as I had never heard of it in other schools. After Senior four, Kigezi went ahead to support me for A level at Kabale Brainstorm High School. The students thought I was a planned kid as tuition was always paid on time. While at A level, I served as a chapel minister which I couldn’t imagine myself. I excelled with eighteen (18) points, which surprised everyone who knew my background.
I won a government scholarship at Makerere University Business School for a Bachelor in Entrepreneurship. I couldn’t imagine myself traveling in a bus to Kampala Up to today, Kigezi has not given up on me. It goes ahead to guide and support me both spiritually and financially. Currently, I am a proud Ugandan, able to read, write, and interpret in addition to speaking with the whites.
Sincerely, I can’t tell where I would be if Kigezi had not come. I am very grateful to God for the knowledge, wisdom, and understanding He gave to the founders of Kigezi Community School. With the help of the Kigezi Orphans Project, I know I will enroll for a Master’s in Business Entrepreneur Development after my Bachelor’s degree.
Long live the founders of Kigezi. Long live sponsors especially Cristal Omeara, and Ben Comer who supported me Partly in my education. Long live our beloved directors. Long live teaching and non-teaching staff. Long live guardians, students, and pupils. Long live Kigezi Community School. For Discipline and Academic Excellence.
