Mubangizi Julius
Project Director

Having been orphaned at age of 21 Mr. Mubangizi Julius Katemba encountered several challenges on how to proceed with education albeit being 1st born of a family of (9) children, he was mandated to provide basic needs to his siblings and the mother. Julius resorted to offering cheap labour in construction sites and part-time fishing in nearby wetlands.

His passion for education did not warn, he kept searching for knowledge until a Good Samaritan took him to a business technical institution in the neighboring town of Kabale. His time at this private institution greatly illuminated in him a desire to provide similar stewardship for the people of his ilk.

At this institution he provided labour in exchange for student tuition, it was a formidable ground for him to learn the dynamics of life it was both challenge and an opportunity on how one can exploit human resources to advance the common good and emancipate society. His time at the institution instilled in him a passion for human development for societal change without any resources but with a functional brain and positive character traits, Julius was ready to face the world head-on.

The old adage that no man is an island colleague with a similar vision greatly supplemented his efforts with the likes of Mr. Egidius Katushabe came in handy to conceive and nurturing the vision.

Katushabe Egidius
Director of Finance

Mr. Katushabe Egidius was born in 1982 and went through a formal school system albeit with limited challenges, he attended both primary and secondary schools in the village of Kanyante – Rubaya, Kabale district. Pandemonium struck his early education carrier while in form three when his dear Dad died. As highly schooled among his siblings, Egidius was looked at as the head of the family of 9 other siblings and the mother. After the death of his dad, a good Samaritan offered to pay for his school fees until form four in 2003, Life became bleak and he opted to study mechanics in Kabale town. The training was informal but he managed to acquire basic skills and driving, he got a job with a construction company as a driver but the pay could hardly see him fend for his family members in the meantime, his mother in the village had been facing family problems culminating from his late husband`s property. At some time, she suffered imprisonment and all sorts of intimidation. The family property was eventually grabbed and the family members were displaced.

Egidius`s life took a turn in 2008 when he met Mr. Katemba Julius both as labourers in the construction company (SBI International Holdings). They shared their life stories and discovered that they share a lot in common. The two noticed that as orphans, life tragedies were taking a toll on them, and had to squarely deal with the challenges at hand, That is limited resources, unemployment, underemployment, and lack of a sustainable lively hood.

Egidius and Julius challenged themselves to make a difference and give hope to the hopeless. They used their predicament to create a brand, they hence force created a “Samaritan” Brand for a charitable cause by forming KIGEZI ORPHANS PROJECT (KOP), they reached out to friends and the organization took shape. As of today, Egidius strongly contends this “LIFE IS NOT THE JOURNEY TO THE STATION, BUT IT’S A JOURNEY TO THE STATION AND BEYOND”
